It's been an unbelievable change. Living out in the country, we could only get dial up Internet service and it would literally take hours to do what now takes minutes. Downloading upgrades, surfing the web and paying bills online is now a joy! Thanks WildBlue!

WildBlue Internet - How It Works

WildBlue high-speed Internet is backed by two powerful satellites that deliver lightening-fast Internet service to your home or business. Plus, satellite Internet service isn't supported by cable and telephone lines, so even when the infrastructure isn't available, WildBlue is.

WildBlue installation is easy. The only equipment you'll need are a 26" satellite minidish and a modem. We provide these for you and install them on your scheduled installation date.* Once your account is activated, the equipment works together to support your new high-speed connection.

The diagram below shows a typical WildBlue customer set-up.

*Customers requiring non-standard installations may be subject to an additional fee and will receive more equipment.

WildBlue Satellites

WildBlue's homegrown communications system, known as the Ka-band system, sits aboard both the WildBlue-1 and Telesat's Anik F2 satellites, providing wide coverage across the continental U.S. through a total of 66 spot beams. These beams each serve one of our service territories, transmitting reliable signals between the satellites in space and your home. WildBlue selected the 20/30 GHz Ka-band frequencies and the spot-beam architecture because it has proven to be the most efficient and effective technology for providing broadband Internet. This advanced technology allows WildBlue to offer you high-speed Internet at some of the most competitive prices on the market.

WildBlue And Your Equipment

Satellite Internet service from WildBlue is one of the easiest Internet systems to set up and use. When your installer arrives on your scheduled installation date, he'll bring with him a 28" x 26" minidish to mount on your roof. If the installer is unable to mount the minidish securely to your roof, it will be mounted on an exterior wall or with a pole mount. The minidish uses the latest technologies to deliver top speeds to your computer, and its small size makes it an inconspicuous addition to your home.

WildBlue also provides a modem you'll use to connect one or more personal computers to the WildBlue network. WildBlue uses a standardized modem technology that makes its satellite Internet services affordable for you. Your WildBlue installer will connect the modem to your PC with an Ethernet cable, or it can be attached to a wireless hub or router. This process usually takes between 2 and 3 hours.

Your WildBlue system will work on most computers. For a PC/Windows, the minimum requirements are: 300 MHz or faster processing speed, minimum 128 MB Random Access Memory (RAM), and Windows 2000, XP Home or XP Professional and Vista operating systems, 100 MB of hard drive space and an Ethernet card are required For Macintosh computers, system requirements are: 300 MHz or faster processing speed, 128 MB Random Access Memory (RAM), and OS 10.4 or higher operating system, 100 MB of hard drive space and an Ethernet card are required.
